Adelaide Running Crew

We are a free social Adelaide running group, running in and around the CBD

About Us

Formed in 2009, Adelaide Running Crew is one of the original social running groups in Adelaide

Adelaide Running Crew is a free social running group aimed at helping members achieve their running goals. We do this through group training sessions conducted in a supportive atmosphere run by volunteer coaches. All members of our group have different running goals and abilities - from purely social runners right through to those training for half, full, and ultra marathons (including those chasing a podium finish!)

It's all about running together, having fun, and celebrating each other's achievements. It is free to join and train with us, and we have helped thousands of runners improve their running ability since we began!

Please see our FAQ for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about running with us? Here are some answers to common queries.

How much do sessions cost?

Nothing - we do it for the love of running and do not ask for membership fees or session payments. An optional gold coin donation is welcome each session to help cover our running costs (like coaching registration and insurance), with any remaining balance donated to our chosen charity each year.

For more information about how we support local causes, see the Donations section below.

How fit/fast do I need to be?

We cater to a wide range of fitness levels however as we are a volunteer group, it may be difficult for coaches to properly support those that are brand new to running.

It is recommended that you are able to comfortably run at least 5km in 30mins in order to get the most out of the sessions.

Wednesday night interval sessions offer a flexible structure that caters to a variety of paces. Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes in duration with a total distance of 6-10km, including warm up and cool down. Our regular runners typically range between 3:30-6:00min/km paces during the session.

Saturday runs are 10-12km in length and are either out and back or loop routes around Adelaide. Our regular runners on Saturday's typically run between a 4:30-6:00min/km pace. Newer runners are welcome to run shorter distances and return back to the start point earlier to meet up for coffee/breakfast afterwards if needed!

Wednesday Interval Training

Wednesday interval training sessions are typically about 60 minutes in duration with a total distance of 6-10km, including warm up and cool down. Our regular runners typically vary between 3:30-6:00min/km paces during the session.

Sessions always start at the same location (Google Map Link) and are conducted either around the Park 10 running track or at nearby locations including the Torrens River, Adelaide Oval Stadium or other nearby parks (we will do a warm up run to these locations).

Each session is focussed on a specific type of interval training which we rotate each week from a large collection we run, this can include training such as:

  • Fartlek
  • Hill Repeats (e.g. 25mins running around a 1km loop incorporating hills)
  • Pyramid Intervals (e.g., 3x 400m, 800m, 1200m, 1600m, 1200m, 800m, 400m)
  • Inverted Pyramid Intervals (e.g. 1600m, 1200m, 800m, 400m)
  • Tempo Runs
  • Interval Repeats (e.g. 10x 800m)
  • and many more!

On the last Wednesday of every month, we hold a pub night after the session where we will go to a local place in North Adelaide for dinner and drinks after training

Saturday Long Runs

Saturday long runs are 10-12km in length and are either out and back or loop routes around Adelaide. The location changes each week and normally starts and finishes at a designated cafe.

Please note that the location each week is subject to last minute changes due to weather, route closure and other factors - make sure you confirm the location on either this website or our social media channels after 8am each Friday before heading out!

Our regular runners on Saturday's typically run between a 4:30-6:00min/km pace.

Newer runners are welcome to run shorter distances and return back to the start point earlier to meet up for coffee/breakfast afterwards if needed!

Please ensure you bring water and a mobile phone to access route information

Where can I store my gear during runs?

Runners can safely store their bags and keys in the cars of our coaches or crew participants parked near the meeting point.

Is there a crew uniform?

There is no mandatory uniform - wear whatever comfortable running gear you have! We do offer a range of locally made Adelaide Running Crew branded running shirts and apparel for purchase. See the Merchandise section for details.

Does ARC participate in races and events?

Yes! Adelaide Running Crew members regularly participate in major running events around South Australia and interstate, including 10km, half marathons, marathons, and ultra-marathons (both road and trail).

We frequently support each other with extra training, travel coordination, and race-day logistics for events like the Sydney, Melbourne, and Gold Coast marathons.

Social Events

We do more outside than just running!

Adelaide Running Crew organizes a variety of regular social activities, including our traditional "Last Wednesday of the Month" dinners after interval training and weekly breakfasts/coffees after Saturday morning runs (runners and non-runners alike are always welcome to join!)

We also have regular social gatherings including wine tours, Fringe show outings, and Christmas dinners. Details are shared via our private Facebook Group which can be accessed below.
